Meet Lou

A former teacher and life-long horsewoman. During her teaching career, she taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and elementary PE.

Her hearing loss as an adult led her to the deaf community, sign language, and a new direction in teaching. She began to work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students in self-contained classrooms, mainstream situations, in summer camps, and therapeutic horseback riding programs.

Lou Honderich and her husband, Jeff, were foster parents to 22 children. They were drawn to foster care after reading about the need for foster parents in their area. With their four children approaching the pre-teen years, it seemed natural to provide for a child in need. Their home needed a little one!

After fostering several little boys, they were asked to care for a toddler girl who soon became a beloved member of the family. Fortunately, it was possible to adopt her as their own.

The author is a former elementary teacher who loves to read and ride her horse, Jackie. She lives on a small farm in Arkansas with chickens, a horse, cats, and a dog.
